Hi everyone,
we are nearing the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer, so this is the last Spring Arts Blog!
This last month of Spring, the month of April, is famous for showers of rain. There are several songs about April Showers,
including one in the Disney animated film, “Bambi”!
The song and the animation work really well together, with the different musical sounds matching the different images in the scene.
The next time you hear the rain falling on the ground outside, or pattering on the windows, take some time to listen to it.
Some people find the sound of rain quite relaxing, and some people find the sound of rain quite musical!
Some people and animals like to shelter from the rain, but you will often see worms coming out of the soil when it is raining.
Worms are a very important animal that help the earth by keeping the soil healthy.
Other animals need the puddles made by the rain for drinking and bathing.
And some people like to go splashing in puddles when they have their wellies on 🙂
If you prefer to stay in on a rainy day, you could try this activity and make a
type of word art called a one-word Calligram.
Materials:
Paper
Colours (paints, pencils, crayons, markers, whatever you have!)
a) Pick the word you want to write. Write the letters to look like the word you have chosen.
I have chosen “puddle”. I have written the letters as if they were made out of puddles.
b) Colour in the letters using colours that match the word. Here I have used
colours you might see in a puddle, like blues and silvers.
c) Here is the finished one-word Calligram:
d) Here are some more examples:
Out and About:
If you are out and it starts to rain, see what kind of creatures come out to enjoy it!
