Last week saw Lakers take to the roads as we headed en masse to The Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. Over 160 members and families shared a wonderful weekend. Arriving on Friday the 24th of February, some of us went out to dinner while other families decided to say in the hotel. Though in the end most of us ended the night in the bar, dancing away and chatting up a storm.
The weather was really kind to us with beautiful sunshine, if a bit chilly. But it was dry and bright and made it easy to get out and about with many families heading in to the city for a bit of shopping. Others went for a drive out Connemara or down to the Burren in Clare. Some decided to just stay around the hotel. Taking the opportunity for a swim or reading in the sunroom or taking a brisk stroll down the Salthill Prom (there may even have been some ice cream).
We had a Lakers Family dinner together on the Saturday night in the hotel. We basically filled the entire dining room!! (Sorry to the other diners who had to put up with us 😅) The Menu included Beef, Chicken Supreme or Hake for the main course and a choice of some delicious desserts too. The food went down a treat. We took over the bar once again on the Saturday night, the dance floor was packed, the atmosphere was brilliant and the conversation flowed.
To top the amazing weekend, some of our members and families were lucky enough on Saturday to meet the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, European Commissioner Mairead McGuiness and Senator Barry Ward. All of whom were at an event in the same hotel. The next day some also got the chance to meet Irish sports commentator and television presenter Marty Morrissey! What a fun weekend.
This is such a really good opportunity for our members to hang out together in the save environs of the hotel. And also for the parents to make new friends and catch up with all the older ones. If you have never tried it out, maybe next year is the time to give it a go. I couldn’t recommend it more!
Thank you to all the fabulous members and families who made it such a memorable weekend. And a huge thank you to The Galway Bay Hotel and to all the wonderful staff who made all our stays so fantastic!
