Lakers has branched out to the world of horse riding! Our wonderful staff Hannah and Helen head out to Newcastle on a Friday morning. There two classes of members get the opportunity to ride at Cooladoyle Equestrian Centre. The class starts in the arena where the members have a trot around on their horses (an experienced rider alongside). As the weeks progressed and the members got the hang of it they began doing little obstacle courses.
The obstacle course involves the members (and their experienced rider) navigating in and out of long metal pipes that are laid out in different directions on the ground. Once they have gotten into the groove of things they head out for a trail ride along Cooladoyles fields. In between the arena and the field trail there is a hill the members must ride up and down. It’s a great opportunity for the members to practice their technique of leaning forwards and backwards on the horse and experience a different type of terrain.
Last week at horse riding due to the extreme heat Cooladoyle staff decided to keep the horses inside. So after a quick ride in the field (where there was a cool breeze for the horses) all the members had the amazing opportunity. To learn how to care for the horses! The members fed the horses carrots and apples as well as brushed Lily, one of Cooladoyles ponies. They even learned how the groomers clean the horses’ hooves! That’s definitely not something you see every day!
