Anyone who walks up the hall on a Tuesday morning in Lakers will be greeted by the
glorious smells wafting from the Training Kitchen as the Tuesday Morning cookery class cook up a storm. Our fantastic volunteers Joyce and Marianne lead our members in cookery skills, kitchen safety and food education.
This past week for instance all our cookery classes were making a valentines dinner. The cookery instructor Niamh created a program which all the cookery classes follow. Each week is planned in advance. At the beginning of each class the members sit down and learn all about whichever food or celebration they are cooking that week.
This week for valentines day each class learned about the history of valentines day, and all about St Valentines. They also spoke of how valentines day is celebrated today – with cards, flowers and spending time with the person you love, and of course chocolate! For their Valentines meal this week each class cooked Lemon and Thyme Chicken Schnitzel. They served this with potatoes and vegetables and they also baked red velvet cupcakes to finish up! Yum.
The red velvet cupcake recipe is available in our February Newsletter. ❤
