So how did last week go? Did you print out your calendar and start planning? Good on you!
Presents: You should have your list prepared from last week, and it is just a case of continuing with this.
Wrapping Paper: Maybe if you don’t already do so, you can make sure that any Christmas wrapping paper you buy this year is recyclable. So none of the shiny or glitter paper, or better still maybe think of a more environmental way of wrapping – use bags, or brown paper – decorate this yourself or use any more sustainable alternative.
Christmas Lights: Now is a good time to check your Christmas lights. I always pack mine away each year in a separate box so I can take it down in advance of the other decorations and then I can test them early, leaving myself time to buy new ones if needed. I also try and leave myself a note in the box from last year about what worked well and what was broken! You never remember 11 months later!!
Christmas Tree: Many of you may already have your tree up, if not have a think about when is a good day to do it. Leave yourself time and enjoy the experience. Put on some Christmas Music or a Christmas Film in the background. Make it a magical day.
If you are buying a real tree, you will probably need to wait until December to do that, as otherwise it won’t last long enough! Again, make it a fun time picking out the best tree, look at the size, shape and make sure it fits into the room!!!
Clothes: Most of us like to buy something new to wear for Christmas, and for growing kids this is usually a necessity. But perhaps we can repurpose something we already have in the wardrobe. A classic pair of Black Trousers – buy a new top; have a look at all those items still with tags on that you bought last year, and never wore!! Maybe you can swap with friend. Many items we buy only get one wear, why shouldn’t someone else get the benefit of that outfit you or your kids have grown out of. Save money, Save Time, Save the Planet!
Visit Santa: This year it might be difficult to get out to visit Santa, so we may have to rely on a letter. But hopefully if restrictions are lifted a bit in December, we will have a safe and socially distanced environment to get to see the man himself and he will have a little gift too. Why not book here, https://lakers.ie/lakers-events/santa-visit/ but be quick, there are a limited number of places.
Overseas Gifts: If you have to post presents to family or friends in another country, get them ready now. They would need to be posted by the beginning of December, and if you can, make it a bit earlier this year, because we don’t know what may be delayed due to the current situation.
You have made a really good start on your preparations, well done. Come back here next week for a few more tips.
